I got up on Saturday morning and wanted something to do with the family. A friend had recently posted pictures of this place called Tent Rocks. It is located about an hour north from us. So I thought it would be fun to take a day trip up there and check it out. I nagged encouraged the kids to hurry and get their jobs done and quickly threw together a picnic lunch. We got out the door just after eleven and made it up there in time to feed everyone lunch. It was perfect weather...sunny with a touch of overcast to keep it cool. I thought we had planned well...packed all the camera gear in a backpack for Jon to carry (plus all the water bottles) and brought a backpack carrier for Jaycee. Braden decided he wanted a shoulder ride from dad and once he has decided he wants something, we all here about it until he gets it. So now Jon has all the camera gear, water bottles and Braden on his back. Then Jaycee decides she HATES being in the backpack. So guess who got her way as well? Jon's response to all of this...he felt like a mule carrying all the stuff! We did not end up making it all the way to the top and that is okay, maybe next time. This outing definitely came with it's challenges, but we all really had a great time. It will be a fun new place to bring our family when they come to visit!
The 'Mule'
It almost looks like the rock in the center has a face!
I could not believe the size of some of the trees and tree roots we saw.
The first stop on the trail is this cave...
God's creations are simply breath taking to me...look at the size of that tree compared to us.
The tree in the picture above...well, these are its roots...I was wondering the very same thing...what on earth is holding that tree up!
This is the start of the entrance into the Canyon Trail. It takes you along the bottom of the beautiful walls that had been eroded way by volcanoes millions of years ago.
This was pretty much the look we got from Braden when he wasn't being carried.

I'm so glad you told Shaun about Tent Rocks. Now we have a place to take our family to when they come in June. Hooray!
Hahaha! Ahhh, that looks very similar to our Brody look. Where is that place? Looks beautiful!!
We decided to be like you and went to Tent Rocks last Saturday. Thanks for the good idea! You should be happy you didn't make it to the top! Climbing up the rocks with a baby was quite an adventure!
