Oklahoma City - Arkansas

**July26, 2012

Our second state line was crossing into Oklahoma.

The only thing we stopped to see here was the Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial.  It really was a place of peace.  It breaks my heart that we live in a world were people find it necessary to hurt innocent people.

Normally, the spot where Jon and the kids are walking is a reflection pond and has water in it, but unfortunately, it was under maintenance.  On each side of the reflection pond is a wall with a time...9:01 and 9:03.  It resembles the minute before and the minute after the bombing which occurred at 9:02.

These are the chairs that resemble each of the people how perished in this tragic event.  There are big chairs for the adults and small chairs for the children that died.

They had this walkway with places that people cold leave chalk messages, even today, seventeen years later, people are still leaving kind words.

Shortly after leaving Oklahoma City, we headed into the craziest rain/lightning storm I have EVER been in.  The lightning was striking right in front of us and on the side of the highway.  I prayed that we would make it to the hotel safely.  That would be the hotel we hadn't even booked yet too!  That was Jon assignment for this road trip and needless to say, we ended up with our hotel rooms about an hour before arriving.  In the end, it did work out and I survived living by the seat of my pants.
By the time we reaches the Arkansas state line, the rain was too intense and it was too dark to unload the family on the side of the freeway safely to get a family shot, so this will have to do!
